Web Design & Development Competition
Web Design and Development requires such a wide variety of skills that it is difficult for one person to excel in all aspects and as a result often a team of professionals will cover the entire process. Web Design and Development involves implementing solutions that fulfill objectives outlined by a client. Web Designers convert a client’s requirements into website specifications.
The WorldSkills Australia Web Design and Development Competition tests skills in an online environment. Competitors are given a case study and the requirements of a system and have to come up with a solution.

IT ALL BEGINS AT A REGIONAL COMPETITION
The WorldSkills Australia Web Design & Development Competitions begin at a grass roots level in one of 42 Australian regions. The Web Design & Development Regional Competitions test the skills and knowledge of 4000+ apprentices, trainees and students, who have the opportunity to win gold, silver and bronze medals and gain the chance to go on to compete at a national level.
WorldSkills Australia competitions operate on a two-year cycle. The next Web Design & Development Regional Competition rounds are now running across the country. 2023 and 2025 are the next National Championship years.

The WorldSkills Australia Web Design and Development Competitions are aligned to the National Information and Communications Technology Training Package.
Regional Competition
Training Package Requirements – Regional Level
The 2024 Regional Competition in Web Design and Development aligns to the Units of Competency contained in ICT40120 – Certificate IV in Information Technology (Web Development Specialisation) Qualification.
Regional Tasks
The Regional Competition encompasses many different skills and disciplines in the production and maintenance of websites and applications. The project will require the Competitor to create a new one-page website for a simulated business. The one-page website is a web page where all the content is displayed on one long scrollable page and the main navigation uses scrolling of the page instead of separate subpages.
The Regional Competition project is designed to test Competitors’ skills and ability in the following areas related to Web Design and Development:
- Design
- Frontend Development
- Server-side Development
- HTML, CSS, PHP, Databases (MYSQL) and JavaScript
Regionals Competition Duration
The competition is completed in 6 hours over 1 day not including briefing or breaks.
National Competition
Training Package Requirements – National Level
The National Competition for Web Design and Development aligns to the Units of Competency contained in the ICT 40120 Certificate IV in Information Technology and ICT 50220 Diploma of Information Technology Qulaifications.
National Tasks
The National Competition challenges the web development skills including programming and design skills but also the ability to multitask and manage time as would a web developer in the work force.
The competition will come in the form of 4 modules which specifically target different areas of knowledge from design to frontend and backend development

Nationals Competition Duration
The competition is completed in 15 hours over 3 days not including briefing or breaks.
