Mock International Competition Day 1
The traditional competitive tension between the Aussies and the Kiwis has reached boiling point this week as the WorldSkills Australia Team go head-to-head against their rivals from across the Tasman.
The 27 Skillaroos will use this opportunity to hone their skills in competition aimed at emulating International Competition conditions. The Skillaroos will compete under the watchful eye of their experts and spectators in competition from May 20-23 at the Newcastle Showground.
The launch of the Mock Competition was held at 10.30am and was attended by Mr David Riordan, Relieving Deputy Director General TAFE and Community Education, Mr Philip Cox, Ms Sonia Hornery MP, Jeanette Allen, Chair WorldSkills Australia, Mark Callaghan, CEO WorldSkills Australia, Sponsors, volunteers and staff. The MC for the event was Mr Philip Cox. Mr Riodan delivered a speech, followed by Mark Callaghan and finally, Skillaroo Gavin Press delivered a heartwarming speech on behalf of Team Australia Skillaroos.
Today marks the '100 Days To go' until the WorldSkills International Competition kicks off in Calgary, Canada.
Spectators at the exhibition are encouraged to watch these skills and trades champions in action and try their hand at a number of disciplines performed by the Skillaroos in the WorldSkills Australia initiative, Try' a Trade.
